Dear indigenous delegations:
Receive the warm greetings of the Unity Pact of Indigenous Organizations of Peru. We hereby wish to communicate that, here in Peru, the COP 20 Group has been formed joining together the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the Unity Pact. Both entities are coordinating the parallel events to the COP 20, and the Unity Pact is working to boost the Alternative Summit of Indigenous and Peasant Peoples (COP INCA), from 9 to 12 December 2014.
This will be an autonomous space for the peoples of the world to express themselves freely and get together, without the control or parameters that the government of Peru seeks to establish. We plan to organize a Climate Camp to house the delegations from Peru and abroad who will come to Lima to participate in the programed activities and promote the Global Peoples March in Defense of Mother Earth.
As indigenous organizations hosting the People's Summit, we express our greetings to all delegations and hope to have direct and effective communication with all of you. In the name of the Unity Pact of Indigenous Organizations of Peru,
Sincerely,
Antolín Huáscar, Unity Pact Coordinator
Gladis Vila Pihue, Unity Pact Spokesperson

— (*) The participation of the National Confederation of Peruvian Communities Affected by Mining (CONACAMI) was suspended until their internal difficulties of legitimacy and representation are autonomously resolved. The Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Rainforest (AIDESEP) decided to formally renounce to the Unity Pact as stated in. However, the letter added that this decision does not mean it will discontinue “coordinating actions that depend on the unity of the national indigenous movement.” |
