Contrary to the attitude he took a few months ago towards the hurricanes in Puerto Rico, Donald Trump puts all his efforts in helping California against of forest fires. Flames of fire in this area of the United States have invaded cities such as Los Angeles and San Diego.

Servindi, 11 de diciembre, 2017.- For several weeks the state of California (United States) has been facing one of the most worrying and damaging environmental tragedies of the 21st century: forest fires. However, in recent days the situation has become dramatic to the point that the fire has reached large Californian cities such as Los Angeles and San Diego.
It has been so devastating the advance of the points of fire in California, that the North American president Donald Trump has declared emergency in that state. In this way, federal funds will be used to avoid the extension of the catastrophe that already threatens cities such as Santa Barbara, Riverside and Ventura.
California is known in the United States for the place of residence of various American billionaires. This is what would have motivated Donald Trump - usually indifferent in the face of environmental catastrophes - to act swiftly. Bearing in mind that the White House refused a few weeks ago to offer aid to Puerto Rico when it was affected by the hurricanes.
The discrimination exerted in the emergency policies by Washington has become evident. Nothing else is necessary to remember the humiliating gesture made by Donald Trump when he visited the Puerto Rican city of San Juan only to throw rolls of toilet paper at the population most in need.
The impact of climate
As for the impact of the wildfire wave in California, the figures are dramatic. Only in the south of the state have been evacuated 200 thousand people in an operation that involved 5 thousand firefighters. At the end of last week, there were about 150 multifamily buildings affected by the tongues of fire.
One of the most luxurious neighborhoods in the United States is the Bel Air, residential zone located in Los Angeles. In this area some mansions have already been affected by the flames. According to the mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, so far only four houses have been totally destroyed in his city.
Precisely, one of the few mansions affected by forest fires that have reached the city is of the Australian tycoon Rupert Murdoch, owner of various media in the world as Fox, one of the few that paradoxically continues to support Donald Trump , declared a ‘negationist’ of climate change.
The truth is that, as a tragic paradox, while the United States has one of the ‘negationist’ presidents of global warming and remains outside the climate pact of the Paris Agreement, the environment has endeavored to show this country the opposite through hurricanes and forest fires.
