Mientras se producía el momento culmine del entierro de Jaime Mendoza Collio, al son de los sonidos del kull-kull y los kultrun, una tenue lluvia se hizo caer y dos Relmu (arco iris) cubrieron el valle. La jornada estuvo marcada de un profundo recogimiento y respeto, pero también de mucha impotencia, rabia y sed de justicia contenida. En el laboratorio de la policía de investigaciones de La Serena, se determinó que el joven mapuche no portaba arma al momento de su muerte y los peritajes no arrojaron la presencia de pólvora en su cuerpo. La familia anunció querella contra el Estado. Conversamos con Ambrosio Mendoza, el padre de Jaime. (Imágenes: Observatorio.cl)

Las miradas tristes se entrecruzaban tratando de buscar alguna explicación para su partida. Eran cientos, miles de personas las que ayer domingo se hicieron presentes en la despedida de Jaime Mendoza Collio (24 años), joven padre de un menor de poco más de dos años, trabajador, soñador, weichafe mapuche que ayer se unió a Matías Catrileo, Alex Lemun y otros que también entregaron su vida por su madre que siempre los acoge, la tierra.

Al compás de los sonidos del Kull-kull, xuxuka y kultrun, sus restos fueron enterrados en el cementerio de la comunidad Requem Pillan, tras una caminata por un angosto y encurvado camino de tres kilómetros. El caminar era lento, a ratos silencioso, a ratos con gritos de marichiweu y afafan, símbolos de la energía y de la fuerza del hombre y la mujer mapuche. Mientras algunos se expresaban con carteles que señalaban mapuche resiste, sigue recuperando territorio, estado chileno asesino, justicia para nuestro weichafe, gobierno chileno asesino y criminal, ejecutaste a nuestro peñi, peñi Jaime tu muerte será vengada con sangre y fuego, entre otras leyendas.

El cortejo fue encabezado por jóvenes weichafe a caballo, cuyas lanzas de colihue estaban amarradas con cinta roja y hojas de canelo. Le seguía el ataud en andas y posteriormente machi, lonko y werken de la comunidad, seguidos de más weichafe con sus respectivos wuño o chuecas. El momento más emotivo y que marcó la jornada de quienes estábamos allí en el momento del entierro, fue la lluvia tenue que se hizo sentir a pesar de las escasez de nubes, mientras dos relmus o arco iris cubrieron hacia el este el valle, causando el asombro de los allí reunidos, mientras se escuchaban los sonidos de los instrumentos y los gritos de afafan y marichiweu con mucha fuerza.

La multitudinaria presencia que seguía el cortejo tenía diversas procedencias. Comunidades de la zona y de otras regiones, de ciudades como Temuco, Concepción y Santiago, sentían tal vez las mismas sensaciones, junto a la pena, la rabia, la convicción de que se debe hacer justicia y que la lucha que debe continuar con más fuerza que nunca. Y es que desde aquel fatídico 13 de agosto, fecha en que el carabinero Patricio Jara Muñoz da muerte por la espalda al joven weichafe, los mapuche sienten un compromiso mayor con sus demandas, según lo señalan todos los comunicados emitidos.

Más antecedentes sobre la responsabilidad de carabineros

Hoy se informó que el carabinero Miguel Patricio Jara Muñoz, del Grupo Operativo de Fuerzas Especiales, GOPE, procedente de Santiago y que disparó por la espalda a Medoza Collio, según certificó el Instituto Médico Legal de Angol, será procesado por decisión de la fiscalía militar y el fiscal Rodrigo Vera Lara.

Hoy se conoció además el resultado del examen practicado en un laboratorio de la PDI de La Serena, certificado como el mejor del país, el que determinó que el joven mapuche no disparó ningún arma al momento de arrancar de carabineros. Esto echa por tierra una vez más la versión de carabineros, que señaló que Mendoza Collio portaba un arma.

La familia, en tanto, informó que presentará una querella criminal por lo que califican asesinato, en el que se utilizó un arma fiscal, y que pronto decidirán cómo y quién será el jurista que los representará, informó Radio Bío Bío.

¿Qué reflexión podría hacer?

Chem piafvn kai peñi, qué podría decir por lo que pasó. Un día se acordó recuperar las tierras, usted tiene experiencia papí´, me dijo mi hijo, tiene más experiencia para esta lucha, ha estado y andado, me dijo. ¿Y aparecieron los carabineros?

¿Cómo califica la actitud de carabineros?

Como ellos tienen más poder, yo creo que ellos están para cuidar su país nada más. Pero yo creo que estos son pagados por los particulares, a cómo se explica lo que hicieron con mi familia, es porque son pagados, quizás cuantos millones reciben ellos.

¿Cuál sería su mensaje a los jóvenes mapuche?

Tantos jóvenes mapuche futuros que hay, esto es para ellos, no es para los viejos como yo, más cuando mi hijo tenía hijo. Todos ellos más tarde van a necesitar (tierras), sino con qué se van a mantener. (Mañana entrevista completa).

The newen-the energies of the people and nature- were manifest in massive final goodbye to Jaime Mendoza Collio

While Jaime Mendoza Collio´s burial culminated to the sounds of the kull-kull and the kultrun, soft rain and two rainbows covered the valley. The day was marked by deep respect and introspection, but also charged with contained impotence, rage and thirst for justice. At the La Serena investigation police´s labs, it was determined that the Mapuche youth did not carry a weapon at the time of his death and the experts didn´t find a trace of gunpowder on his body. The young man´s family has announced it will go to court against the state. We spoke to Ambrosio Mendoza, Jaime´s father.

Sad gazes are exchanged in search of some explanation for his untimely departure. Hundreds, thousands of people bid farewell yesterday to Jaime Mendoza Collio (24 años), young father of a two-year-old child, laborer, dreamer, Mapuche weichafe (warrior) who now joins Matías Catrileo, Alex Lemun and others who have also given their lives to the mother that always receives them, the Earth.

Young weichafe s led the procession on horseback, their lances tied with a knotted red sash and leaves from the sacred canelo tree. After them came the coffin, carried by men and followed by the community´s authorities, the machi or healer, the lonko or head of the community, and the werken, or messenger, followed by more weichafe bearing their staffs (wuño or chuecas). For those of us there at the funeral, the most moving moment of the day was marked by the soft rain that came down despite the cloudless sky, while two relmus or rainbows covered the eastern part of the valley, to the great astonishment of all the people gathered there, while we heard the sounds of the instruments and the strong shout-outs of afafan and marichiweu .

The crowd that followed the procession had a very diverse provenance. Communities from the surrounding area and cities, and from other regions, from cities such as Temuco, Concepción and Santiago, bringing perhaps similar sentiments, along with grief, anger and the certainty that justice needed to be done, that the struggle must continue, even stronger than ever. And its from that fatal day, August 13, the day when police officer Patricio Jara Muñoz killed the young weichafe from the back , that the Mapuche feel an even greater commitment to their demands, according to all the communiqués issued.

More on the Police´s responsibility

As they have more power, I think they are just looking out for their country. But I think that they´re paid by individuals, how else to explain what they did to my family, it must be because they are paid, I wonder how many millions they might be receiving.

What would be your message to the young Mapuche?

There are so many future young Mapuche out there, this is for them, not for old folks like me–even more since my son had a child. They are going to need [land] later on, otherwise how will they live? (Full interview tomorrow).
